About Us -

Vienna Girls Softball League (VGSL) is dedicated to providing the chance for school age girls in Northern Virginia to play softball at all levels from 6U to 18u as well as national tournaments.

VGSL was launched as the VPPL (Vienna Pigtail/Ponytail League) in the early 1960s by parents who wanted girls to have similar opportunities to boys for competition in athletics. There are no paid officers. Volunteers give hundreds of hours a season to coaching, readying fields, and carrying out the numerous duties required for the operation of the league.

The league is widely known for its “Select” or“Travel” teams that compete for state, regional and national championships, but it is the “House” league that is the heart of the VGSL. House league is where the girls learn to play and love the game.

We are trying to improve communication on field status.  A service is being tested which will update in this section, update facebook and send you a text message if you signed up.

Note: status section will be blank if there are no recent entries.

Weather Policy

  • Lightning: suspend play immediately
  • If during the suspension, you see lightning or hear thunder, the 30 minute clock resets
  • Thunder alone does not stop play
  • Player safety should be first priority - if severe weather is approaching, be prudent

    VGSL depends on volunteers to operate our league. Please consider a board position to help keep VGSL the Premier Softball league in Northern Virginia.

    Announcements-

    • Coaches Clinics - Sunday March 4th at Flint Hill ES from 11:00 to 2:30.  Mandatory for New Coaches and Assistants.  Returning coaches are highly encouraged to attend as latest approaches to girls fastpitch will be presented.
    • Player Evaluations for 10u (11:00 to 2:00) and 12u (2:30 to 5:00) at Flint Hill ES on Sunday, Feb 26th.  ALL Players - new AND returning need to be evaluated. 
    • Spring Softball Registration CLOSES (except for 13+) on Feb 24th.  No guarantee's of team placement if registering after that date.  Online registration link.  Prefer a form? 
    • Master Fields Schedule - Week by Week (updated often during the seasons).  Open slots do NOT mean a field is available. Contact your age director with requests.
    • Games, Results and Standings.  Stay tuned for Spring ball results for 10, 12 and 18u.

    Feb 26 VGSL 10U & 12U House Player Evaluations - at Flint Hill Elementary School.
    10u from 11:00 to 2:00.  12u from 2:30 to 5:00.
    March 4  6u thru 12u House League Teams to be formed by this date 
    March 4  13+ Players Evaluation - Flint Hill Elementary School from 2:30 to 4:30 
    March 4 Coaches Clinic - mandatory for new coaches/asst's. Returning coaches highly encouraged to attend.  11:00 to 2:30.
    March 10 Equipment Pickup for Coaches rain or shine
    March 10  Annual Field Prep Day - 9:00-11:00AM. Bring a rake and help ready our fields after a long winter! Meet at Caffi.
